Carol A. Hess, 74, Petersburg, Huntingdon county, passed Saturday the 14th of December at UPMC Altoona after a three-month battle with an aggressive leukemia. She was born in Altoona, the daughter of the late Phillip P. and Frances (Adams) Hess.

She lived in Altoona her entire life, graduating from Altoona High School in 1968.

After graduation, Carol became a secretary for the Gage Company for many years and then later was employed at Giant Eagle.

She leaves behind her daughter, Stephanie Younkins and her husband, Richard of Davenport, FL; granddaughter, Katie Dillon and husband, William of Slippery Rock and their son, Cooper Dillon. Carol is also survived by her companion, Doug Kerr and his children: Shelly Ivory of Altoona and Andy Kerr of Clayton, NC, along with four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; a sister, Barbara Hess and companion Michael Despot of Altoona; a brother, Ray Hess and wife Linda of Petersburg; as well as nephew, Brian Mowery and wife Janet of Altoona.

Carol was preceded in death by Stephanie’s father, Jim Over and a very special nephew, Ty Mowery.

I was so sad to hear of Carol's passing. Mike and I had the pleasure of traveling with her and Doug to Florida a few years ago to visit Drew's family. We had a great time. Sincere sympathy to Carol's and Doug's families. God Bless! Jessie Michaels and family.
