Obituary For Carolyn Ann Wallen

Carolyn Ann Wallen February 28, 1944-January 17, 2026

With sadness, we announce the passing of Carolyn Ann Wallen, 81, of Petersburg on Saturday.

She was born in Altoona on February 28, 1944, the daughter of the late Betty Jane (McCahren) Marshman and John Craine.

Carolyn was a graduate of Altoona High School and Hahnemann Hospital School of Nursing in Philadelphia. She worked as a psychiatric nurse at the Hollidaysburg State Hospital, which is where she met her husband, social worker, Bill Wallen. Carolyn later worked at the Presbyterian Home and the Home Nursing Agency. After retirement, she was a loyal volunteer at Begin with Books-Huntingdon, the Huntingdon Library and Huntingdon United Way.

Carolyn is survived by her husband of 57 years, Bill; her daughter, Joellyn Zollman (Ron) of San Diego; son, Kevin (Jamie) of Petersburg; four grandchildren: Zachary, Aliza, Will and Eli; and sister, Claire Powell of Altoona.

She loved her family with her whole heart, enthusiastically attending all of their games, events, plays, shows and milestones. Carolyn was an active gardener who enjoyed flower arranging as well as crafting. Family events were more beautiful because of her centerpieces. She also enjoyed doing puzzles and playing games (especially cards and Sequence).

Family and friends will be received from 11 am-noon, Wednesday, January 21, 2026 at E. Merrill Smith Funeral Home, Inc., 2309 Broad Avenue, Altoona, PA 16601. A funeral service will immediately follow at noon.

Interment will follow at Agudath Achim Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: Begin with Books, c/o The Huntingdon Library, 330 Penn Street, Huntingdon, PA 16652.

Condolences may be made at www.stevensfamilyfuneralhomes.com or Stevens Family Funeral Homes Facebook.

Carolyn was one of the nicest people I have ever met. I worked with her long ago. As the new kid on the block, I was intimidated with all of the new information coming at me. Carolyn always helped me through with kindness and grace... and a lot of laughter. May she rest in peace.
