David P. Barr

July 18, 1940-October 17, 2026

David P. Barr, 86, of Altoona, passed away at Homewood Living Martinsburg on Saturday. He was born in Altoona, the son of the late Chalmers and Margaret (Smith) Barr.

Dave married Barbara A. Hazenstab on July 6, 1968, she preceded him in death on December 12, 2024.

He is survived by two sons: Matthew L. Barr (Kristin) of Lewisburg and James T. Barr of Pittsburgh; three grandchildren: Brennen, Brock and Beatrix; also a sister, Nancy Ammerman.

David was a graduate of Altoona High School and attended Juniata College, receiving his bachelor’s degree.

He retired as the Superintendent from the Altoona Water Authority.

Dave was a member of Jaggard United Methodist Church.

He enjoyed being a Mason and playing in the Hollidaysburg Alumni Band.

Friends will be received from 10-11 am, Saturday, October 24, 2026 at E. Merrill Smith Funeral Home, 2309 Broad Avenue, Altoona, PA 16601, where a funeral service will immediately follow at 11 am with Rev. Fred Hickok.

Interment will be held at Fairview Cemetery, Altoona.
