March 26, 1937 -July 15, 2023

Earl V. Karle, 86, of the Hollidaysburg Veterans Home, died Saturday at the Home. He was born in Altoona, son of the late John H. and Effie H. (Reffner) Karle. Earl married Charlotte E. Cole on June 6, 1959 in Columbus, OH. She preceded him in death in 2018.

Earl is survived by 2 sons: Timothy Karle (Judy)of Greenville South Carolina and John Karle (Beth)of Altoona; 3 daughters: LuAnn Irvin (Larry) of Martinsburg, Lisa Karle of Texas and Susan Gingery (Lee) of Altoona; 3 grandchildren: Christopher Irvin (Abigail), Sara Kelley (Matt), Nicholas Irvin ; 3 great grandchildren ; a sister: Helen DeArment. He was preceded in death by a son Jeff Karle, brothers: John and Herman and sisters: Irene .

Earl was a member of First Church of Christ, attended Altoona HS, he retired as an Assistant produce Manager from Weis Markets after 32 years of service and was a United States Air Force Veteran. He enjoyed painting, working in the yard, fishing , was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers, Pittsburgh Pirates and Penn State football fan. Following his retirement, he enjoyed his time as an usher for the Altoona Curve. One of Earl’s fondest memories was of trips to gather firewood with his father, in his father’s Model A, when he was a youngster.

Friends will be received from 10 am to noon on Wednesday July 19, 2023 at the E. Merrill Smith Funeral Home 2309 Broad Ave. Altoona, PA 16601, where a Funeral Service will Follow at noon officiated by his daughter, Pastor Susan Gingery.

Memorial contributions in Earl’s memory can be made to the Hollidaysburg Veterans Home.

Committal will be held at Alto Reste Cemetery.
