Obituary For James L. Aungst

James L. Aungst Dec. 17, 1946-July 16, 2021

James L. Aungst, 74, of Altoona, passed away Friday at his residence following an extended illness. He was born in Altoona, the son of the late Charles and Betty (Hammel) Aungst. James married Mary J. Burk on Nov. 28, 1964. James is survived by his loving wife of 57 years; his sons: James (Linda) Aungst of East Freedom, Scott (Christine) Aungst, Charles (Janet) Aungst both of Altoona; his daughters: Lisa (Paul) Vaughn and Ashley (Dustin) Whitney both of Altoona; nine grandchildren: Carli, Meghan, Emma and Ava Aungst, Emily Rupert, Elizabeth Vaughn, Henry and EJ Lohsl and Gianna Berardinelli; one great-grandson, Michael Rupert; three step-grandchildren: Iverson, Cohen and Alex; his brothers: Terry Aungst and Jeff Aungst both of Altoona. He was preceded in death by a sister, Patti Miller. James retired as a truck driver for RJ Glass Trucking of Duncansville with 25 years of service. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Juniata. James liked attending dirt track racing in Bedford and hunting, but he most enjoyed spending time with his grandkids. Friends will be received from 10:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. on Monday, July 19, 2021 at E. Merrill Smith Funeral Home, 2309 Broad Ave., Altoona, Pa. 16601. A funeral service will immediately follow at E. Merrill Smith Funeral Home on Monday with Pastor Eli Hess officiating. Interment will be at Blair Memorial Park, Bellwood. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made in James’ memory to: Trinity Lutheran Church for the Elementary and Jr./Sr. Youth Groups, 408 N. 6th St., Altoona, Pa. 16601.
