Obituary For Jeannie "Mimi" Louise Jones

Jeannie Louise Jones “Mimi”

November 27, 1956- October 31, 2023

Jeannie Louise Jones “Mimi”, 66, Bellwood, formally of Lakemont & Ashville, passed away, peacefully at home, surrounded by her daughter, Rachel and her three grandchildren, Jerry IV, Braydon, and Dawn. Jeannie fell ill from sudden stage 4 pancreatic cancer that spread to the liver.

Jeannie was born in Altoona, daughter of the late James and Betty (Haiges) Hughes. Surviving are her daughter, Rachel Jones, of Bellwood and her three children. Jerry IV, Braydon, and Dawn Hollabaugh and her daughter’s children: Kyah and Madelynn Schraff of Altoona; a brother, John (Anna) Hughes of Altoona, and a sister, Bobbi Brennan of Altoona; as well as several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gary “Tink” Jones of 45 years on September 7, 2020; her oldest daughter, Crystal Schraff on April 17, 2008; an older brother, James Hughes on February 26, 2019; and an older sister, Sandra (Hughes) Feathers on September 9, 2023.

Jeannie graduated from Altoona Area High School in 1975. She retired from Rite Aid Pharmacy as the head Photo Lab Manager after 30+ years. She was a member of the Buckhorn Bible Church in Ashville. Jeannie was a hard worker and was always the one in the room who would figure out the solution to your problem. She loved photography and taking videos of her kids and family! She worked hard to give her family everything they needed. Giving made Jeannie happy and she loved to spoil her five grandchildren even more. The love Jeannie had for her husband and family went beyond words. She would spend hours playing with one doll to entertain her granddaughters or she would play “stuffies” for hours with her grandsons every morning! She turned into the “say yes to everything” Mimi! Jeannie was also a phenomenal artist. She loved to paint and she could paint anything she put her mind to! She also loved gardening and working in her big gardens that she would later turn into delicious canned goods! She loved to go camping with her family also. Jeannie lived her life in a way to make sure that she helped her surviving members in any way she could. She was taken too soon from this Earth, but her love will never depart!

Jeannie requested to have the same arrangements as her husband, as they made these decisions together. There will not be any funeral services and she requested any donations to go to her family in lieu of flowers.

Arrangements are by E. Merrill Smith Funeral Home, Inc., 2309 Broad Avenue, Altoona, Pa. 16601.
