Joynella Mae Benn

March 11, 1944 – January 16, 2025

Joynella Mae Benn, 80, Altoona, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday at her residence.

She was born in Hancock, MD, daughter of the late Marshall E. Hamer and Catherine (Johnson). On January 14, 1967, she married James D. Benn, Jr. who preceded her in death on July 17, 2021.

Joynella is survived by two sons: Brian D. Benn (Lori) of Goldsboro, NC and Barry J. Benn (Teresa) of Altoona; a daughter, Holly J. Kemper (Rob Bartley) of Altoona; eight grandchildren: Brandon, Sierra, Carley, Shaylee, Lauren, Alyssa, Anthony and Justin; thirteen great-grandchildren; and a sister in law, Judy Werkmeister.

She was a 1962 graduate of Reade Township High School and previously was a seamstress for Tritex and Nancy Andrews.

Joynella was a member of Altoona Bible Church where she helped at the pre-school.

She enjoyed crocheting and music, but mostly she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Friends will be received from 2-3:30 p.m., Saturday, January 25, 2025 at Altoona Bible Church, 3017 Union Avenue, Altoona, PA 16602 where a funeral service will immediately follow at 3:30 p.m. by Pastor Stewart W. McClelland.

Interment will be at Rose Hill Cemetery.

The family requests that memorial contributions be made to Altoona Bible Church, 3017 Union Avenue, Altoona, PA 16602 in Joynella’s memory.
