Obituary For Mary Ellen Leidy

Mary Ellen Leidy July 18, 1928-Aug. 17, 2021

Mary Ellen Leidy, 93, Altoona, went to be with the Lord, Tuesday at her residence after a battle with dementia. She was born in Martinsburg, daughter of the late Daniel C. and S. May (Weitzel) Blattenberger. Mary Ellen married Robert G. Leidy on May 29, 1948, he preceded her death, on Sept. 10, 2017. Mary Ellen is survived by three daughters: Coleen Langguth (David) of Altoona, Eileen McIlvaine (Joseph) of Farmingdale, NJ and Loreen Wogan (Dan) of Altoona; two sons: R. Grant Leidy (Janese) of Indian Mills, NJ and Brian D. Leidy (Debbee) of Wellsboro; 16 grandchildren: Taron, Tiara, Kelly, Christopher, Jan, Erin, Olivia, Steffan, Carly, Brian, Mitchell, Janna, Kiersten, Trey, John David and Nicholas; 17 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and special friends, Paul and Kathy Vincent. She was the last of her immediate family. Mary Ellen was preceded in death by eight brothers: Kenneth, Melvin, Jesse, George, Paul, Harold, Cletus and Drew; and three sisters: Lenore Wineland, Audrey Wineland and Violet Ormsby. Mary Ellen was a 1946 graduate of Morrison Cove High School, she was employed by the PA Shoe Factory and retired from the office of Dr. Walker and deKoning after 18 years of service. She also worked side by side with her husband at Robert Leidy’s Greenhouse. She was a member of Grace Bible Church, where she taught Sunday school and Daily Vacation Bible School. She was a member the Ladies Fellowship and enjoyed cooking for church events. She was also a member of the committee that wrote the book on the history of Lakemont Park and was very active in the Lakemont Park Museum. Mary Ellen enjoyed cooking, spending time with children and babysitting, but most of all, loved serving the Lord and being with her family. Friends will be received from 4-8 p.m. Monday, August 23, 2021 at E. Merrill Smith Funeral Home, Inc., 2309 Broad Avenue, Altoona, Pa. 16601, and from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. funeral service, Tuesday, August 24, 2021 at Grace Bible Church, Hollidaysburg by Pastor Daren Ritchey. Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery, Martinsburg.
