Obituary For Milton E. Nickola

Milton E. Nickola July 12, 1927 – November 21, 2021

Milton E. Nickola, 94, Hollidaysburg, formerly of Altoona, passed away Sunday at UPMC Altoona. Milton was born in Altoona, son of the late Charles and Edna (Gustafson) Nickola. Surviving is a son, David Nickola (Suzanne), two grandsons: Bryan Nickola (Katherine) and Justin Nickola (Sarah), great-grandchildren: Sophia, Zoe, Isabella, Avi, Gianna and Amelia. He is also survived by Effie Whitfield. He was preceded in death by a sister, Virginia Cuzzolina and dear friend, Mary Rizzo. Milton was a 1945 graduate of Altoona High School and served in the US Navy in WWII and Korea. He retired as a plumber and pipefitter for Local 354. Milton was a member of St. Catherine of Sienna Catholic Church. He was a member of Hiram Lodge 616 Free and Accepted Masons, Scottish Rite, Jaffa Shrine, American Legion and VFW. Milton was a volunteer for James E. Van Zandt Veterans Medical Center having been recognized for 2000 volunteer hours. Friends will be received from 6-8 p.m. Friday, 26, 2021 at E. Merrill Smith Funeral Home, 2309 Broad Avenue, Altoona, PA 16601. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, November 27, 2021 at E. Merrill Smith Funeral Home, Inc. by Msgr. Robert Saly. Interment is at Alto Reste Cemetery. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to Shriners Hospital for Children-Erie, 1645 W. 8th St., Erie, Pa. 16505 OR online: www.shrinerschildrens.org/locations/erie.
