Robert D. “Bob” Murray

June 29, 1935-July 14, 2023

Robert D. “Bob” Murray, 88, Altoona, passed away Friday at UPMC Altoona.

He was born in Altoona, the son of the late Cloyd and Hilda (Kaltsmith) Murray. Bob married Shirley Ann Hecht on July 7, 1954, she preceded him in death on January 1, 2012.

Bob is survived by his son, Darrel Murray (Katherine) of Charlotte, NC and daughter, Cathy Jarrett of Altoona; five grandchildren: Melissa Carney (Michael), Jason McGinnis (Stephanie), Heather Ray (Ian), Erica Gallagher (Spencer) and Troy Jarrett; eight great-grandchildren: Kendyl, Brody and Nolan Carney, Braeson, Eli and Caleb McGinnis, Nora and Patrick Ray; his two brothers: Galen Murray and Lowell Murray, both of Altoona and son in law Richard McGinnis of Altoona.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Linda McGinnis.

Bob was a 1954 graduate of Bellwood Antis High School.

He retired as a truck driver for Ward Trucking after 35 years of service. Bob later enjoyed being an usher for Altoona Curve Baseball for 20 years.

Bob was a member of the Altoona Curve Booster Club and the Ward Retirement Committee.

He enjoyed seeing his grandchildren play in their many sporting activities and especially loved family get togethers.

A funeral service will be private and held at the convenience of the family. Interment will be held at Blair Memorial Park.

    We will really miss Bob. He was our usher at the Altoona Curve for many years and called us his girls. He always hugged us and told us how much he loved us. Bob was like a dad. We truly will miss you and we both love you lots. Deepest sympathy to the family. Love, your girls!
