William B. Markley

William B. Markley, 76, Duncansville, formerly of Altoona went to be with his Lord and Savior at home on Saturday.

He was born in Altoona, the son of Florine C. (Summers) Markley and the late William I. Markley. Bill married Judith A. Leipold on September 10, 1966.

He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years; his son, William I. Markley, II of Phillipsburg; his daughter, Jody. L. Markley of Philadelphia; three grandchildren: Jordan G. Hall, Lynden C. Markley and Kendall P. Markley; two brothers: Steven P. Markley of Lancaster and Mark A. Markley of Altoona; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Bill was a 1965 graduate of Altoona High School, where he studied Auto Mechanics. As an adult he went on the receive his Associate Degree of Business from Penn State.

He retired as a part-time Rural Letter Carrier for the US Postal Service. Bill also retired from Mt. Nittany Medical Center, Phillipsburg Hospital, Lewisburg Hospital and Bon Secours-Altoona as their Patient Account Manager. Previously he was a supervisor at West Penn Power and an Electrician at Bell Telephone/Western Electric.

Bill was a member of Altoona Bible Church for over 40 years, where he served in many capacities, including the Deacon Board and a leader of the Christian Service Brigade. He filled the pulpit at many churches over the years, including Nittany Bible Church, Pennsylvania Furnace. He was a current member at Grace Family Bible Church where he was a Lay Pastor.

He was the pitcher for the Altoona Bible Church softball team, coached little league and other youth sports teams.

He was an avid outdoorsman – hunting, fishing, hiking, canoeing, camping, and gardening, and enjoyed stamp collecting, genealogy, and Civil War, WWI and WWII history.

Friends will be received from 2-4 pm on Saturday, January 20 at E. Merrill Smith Funeral Home, Inc., 2309 Broad Ave., Altoona, PA 16601. A funeral service will immediately follow at 4 pm. A Remembrance Gathering will follow the service at Grace Family Bible Church, 2243 Mill Road, Duncansville. Interment will be held at Alto Reste Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that contributions be made in Bill’s memory to Grace Family Bible Church (Duncansville) Missionary Fund.
